DHA-EA is partnered with the new Ndhiwa Municipality in a Plan-Design-Implement process which includes a comprehensive 30-year master plan. The municipality is home to 298,080 residents in 7 wards in western Kenya. The unique development agenda firmly strengthens its agricultural character while embracing sustainable urbanization. Ndhiwa, the Smart, Sustainable, Agricultural city, will be a model of excellence for all Africa and consistent with SDG Goal #11 to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Smart Technology will be integrated into every aspect of city management, education, industry, and community interface. In the face of urbanization’s multiple challenges caused by the flow from rural to large urban centers, Ndhiwa will demonstrate the value of strengthening the rural sustainably, creating shared prosperity and social stability without harming the environment.
Ndhiwa is being developped to become a sustainable smart agriculture city. Rakoro Ranch is a center dedicated to develop the regenerative businesses, industries and technologies that will make that possible. Rakoro Industrial Park is the circular economy center for study and production of all regenerative systems that will maintain the sustainability of Ndhiwa and furthermore Homabay county.
South-West Kenyan biodiversity is a richness to be both preserved and cultivated. Especially in the Homabay region of Ndhiwa where the tropical forest and savanna meet. This project aims to restore Ndhiwa's local natural forest ecosystems based on the study of their species and the symbiosis relations within the local prestine forests that allow them to florish and expand.
The farm spans across 60 acres and operates as a regenerative and organic fish farm. It incorporates a self-sustaining green energy system powered by solar energy, a feed production unit, and cultivates organic crops for various purposes such as edible oil, human food, and animal feed. The farm specializes in the cultivation of catfish, shrimps, tilapia, and various other breeds.
Maripha Farms is a 15-acre integrated commercial farm demonstrating regenerative agriculture. DHA EA is in an on-going collaborative process to maximize farm profitability through value-addition, waste to energy, waste to fertilizer, circular economic partnerships, and nature-friendly land management. The farm is also a research and testing center for a range of initiatives which can lead the way to a more food secure Africa.
