DHA-EA is partnered with the new Ndhiwa Municipality in a Plan-Design-Implement process which includes a comprehensive 30-year master plan. The municipality is home to 298,080 residents in 7 wards in western Kenya. The unique development agenda firmly strengthens its agricultural character while embracing sustainable urbanization. Ndhiwa, the Smart, Sustainable, Agricultural city, will be a model of excellence for all Africa and consistent with SDG Goal #11 to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Smart Technology will be integrated into every aspect of city management, education, industry, and community interface. In the face of urbanization’s multiple challenges caused by the flow from rural to large urban centers, Ndhiwa will demonstrate the value of strengthening the rural sustainably, creating shared prosperity and social stability without harming the environment.
The farm spans across 60 acres and operates as a regenerative and organic fish farm. It incorporates a self-sustaining green energy system powered by solar energy, a feed production unit, and cultivates organic crops for various purposes such as edible oil, human food, and animal feed. The farm specializes in the cultivation of catfish, shrimps, tilapia, and various other breeds.
The African School of Economics (ASE) is a Pan-African University dedicated to producing cutting-edge research in Economics, Finance, and Public Policy, as well as world-class social scientists and business leaders on the continent. DHA-EA is a sustainable development partner in ASE’s expansion to establish over 30 new campuses on the African continent. The introduction of 5G-based Artificial Intelligence into the higher education arena is one dimension of the research focused university. Top researchers in the fields of economics, science, engineering and technology, the arts and sciences will lead the way for the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.
Situated on 20 acres in Bugesera, Kigali’s expanding metropolitan area, the development centers on a state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation facility complemented by an accredited training college. The land will include a regenerative farm catered to the food needs of the facility. An independent but adjacent development includes construction of a top-tier hotel and conference center for travelers at the new Bugesera International Airport.
Maripha Farms is a 15-acre integrated commercial farm demonstrating regenerative agriculture. DHA EA is in an on-going collaborative process to maximize farm profitability through value-addition, waste to energy, waste to fertilizer, circular economic partnerships, and nature-friendly land management. The farm is also a research and testing center for a range of initiatives which can lead the way to a more food secure Africa.
DHA-EA supports the work of Passion of Hope International, an NGO operating in Africa. In Gilgil Sub-County, Nakuru, Kenya the Jiimarishe Livelihood project has empowered small-holder farmers who lacked water access and constrained their ability to earn a living. The program centered on beekeeping. Self-help groups of mostly women saw their economic lives transformed utilizing regenerative agriculture, once access to water was facilitated with rainwater harvesting. Additional interventions extended into primary and secondary schools, nutrition and wellness, and healthcare.
